Trips and visits
An integral part of school are the memories that a child develops over time.
Our school visits are linked to a specific area of the curriculum and are carefully planned and designed to enrich the children’s learning in this area; helping to link the concrete and the abstract . Educational visitors are also invited in to school.
Bincombe Valley Primary School is very lucky to be located next to the Wold famous Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coast, the home of water sports for the 2012 Olympic Games as well as being so close to wonderful country side.
The area around Weymouth and Portland is steeped in history from prehistoric settlements, to one of the first English landings by the Vikings, to the infamous link to the spread of the Black Death and the less well-known link to the origins of the story behind the Sound of Music!
As a school we like to make good use of this 'learning landscape'.
In addition there are times where we like to journey further afield to help bring some subjects to life, such as Stonehenge or the British Museum or to experience musical performances such as those put on by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Residential visits allow children to further develop their sense of independence and resilience.
In Year 4 children attend a 3-day residential to Leeson House in Swanage.
Year 6 pupils travel to the north of the county and use Springhead as their base for a week-long adventure.
