Bincombe Valley Primary School

Personal development within the curriculum

Personal development is intertwined throughout the school curriculum and our core values. We want each child to leave the school feeling confident, happy with who they are and ready for the next phase of their learning journey.

Our aim is to teach children how to navigate through life safely, happily and healthily. Children are growing up in a world that is constantly changing and it is our role in school to work in partnership with their parents to teach them the skills that they will need to thrive now and in what they do next.

We teach children about the world around them, relationships, emotions, reproduction and health, as well as transferable skills to help with life.

The curriculum helps us to do this. In particular, the teaching of Science, R.E. and PSHCE support the discussions around these key areas of focus.

Computing teaches the children about staying safe online.

RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) has materials which we like to share with parents so that they can stay up to date with what is being taught in school and  support at home with any additional questions. When this appears on the school timetable, we will write to you to keep you informed of when and what is being taught.

Children at Bincombe Valley experience a wide range of exciting opportunities and activities as part of our Wider Curriculum subjects. These activities help to ‘bring learning to life’ and enable children to experience more, know more and remember more.

Some examples of these Wider Curriculum opportunities are listed below:

  • Black History Month celebrations
  • Historical places visits
  • Creating and visiting a museum in different classrooms
  • Visits from experts
