Good physical and mental health
Bincombe Valley Primary School recognises the importance to health for children to stay physically active. We provide a package of opportunity for pupils to develop good levels of physical literacy, both in lesson time and at other times of the school day, as well as in a good range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.
Primary schools provide a safe and supportive environment for building life skills, wellbeing, resilience and in developing a strong sense of identity and belonging. Fostering healthy relationships with peers, teachers and school staff are essential to children’s emotional development and general well-being.
At Bincombe Valley we approach this in a number of ways.
- P.E. sessions
- Science lessons: Healthy bodies
- P.S.H.E. lessons
- Food and Nutrition lessons as part of Design and Technology
- Offering a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and opportunities
- Assemblies
- Visiting speakers from agencies such as the Mental Health Support Team
- Strong adult modelling
- Providing a good range of physical activity equipment available to use throughout the day
- Mental health movement breaks such as those in the Stormbreak programme
- Whole school programmes such as the Zones of Regulation to teach children that it is ok to feel the way that you are feeling
- Training and maintaining a large team of E.L.S.A.s (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants)
- Strong partnerships (we are a Youth Sport Trust Lead Inclusion School)
